Described as “transportive” (Santa Barbara Voice), violist and musical omnivore Keoni Bolding enjoys a career rooted in many styles and traditions. As an orchestral player he has appeared with the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. As a recording artist, he has recorded works with John Williams, the London Symphony Orchestra, Yo-Yo Ma, and R.E.M. As a transcriber, his works have outpaced his own travels, being performed across North America, Europe and Asia. He was also the first competitor at the Primrose International Viola Competition to win the Transcription Prize with an original transcription. Outside classical music, Keoni has performed at NYC’s Birdland Jazz, been featured on PBS’s Songcraft Presents, and shared the stage with luminaries of many contrasting genres including Cynthia Erivo, Lyle Lovett, Killer Mike, and the Count Basie Orchestra. He holds degrees from Juilliard, Curtis, and Mercer University. Keoni also enjoys surfing, backpacking, wandering through art museums with his Grandma Judy, jamming with his brother Aidan, tasting craft beer with his dad, and helping his mom take care of their family dairy farm in Pennsylvania.
