Vestry

The Vestry is the “board of directors” of the church and its legal representative with regard to all matters pertaining to its corporate property. Vestry members are elected at the annual parish meeting and serve a three-year term. They may be re-elected for one additional three-year term, but must then “roll-off” of the vestry for at least one year. This ensures diversity and broad representation of the parish in its governance.  The vestry may appoint members if there is a vacancy between elections. The rector selects a rector’s warden from among the elected vestry members whose role is to provide leadership to the vestry, support for the rector, and lead the parish between rectors. A treasurer, accounting warden, and a secretary or clerk are appointed annually by the vestry. The basic responsibilities of the vestry are to help define and articulate the mission of the congregation; to support the church’s mission by word and deed; to select the rector when there is a vacancy (retirement or resignation); to ensure effective organization and planning; and to manage resources and finances.
