Worship

Our worship life is vibrant and inclusive. We are seated in a circle to remind us that we are the community of God—and that God dwells in the midst of our gathering. We use a full-word leaflet to ensure that everyone may fully participate in the worship services. With rare exceptions, our Sunday services include Holy Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion). Our Sunday Holy Eucharist services follow the Book of Common Prayer Rite 2 service with the inclusion of additional Episcopal resources, such as Enriching Our Worship I and II. Worship extends beyond Sunday mornings and includes Taize services, Morning and Evening Prayer, Compline, Eucharistic Visitors, the commissioning of parish and community ministries, Blessing of the Animals, healing services, instructed Eucharists, outdoor services, ecumenical services, and Evensongs. We offer worship services, small and large, both in-person and online. During the Summer and Fall, we hold outdoor “journey” Eucharist services. Our many ministers of the liturgy represent a diverse cross-section of the congregation, including many young people.

We appreciate the fullness and flexibility of Episcopal worship that allows us to join together in spirit, voice and body to worship the incarnate God of creation, redemption and resurrection. We invite you to come grow in the Spirit with us!

SUNG COMPLINE
Wednesday Evenings
July
16, 23 and 30, 2025

The choir invites you to come pray compline with us on Wednesdays in July at 7:30pm.

Much of the service is sung, but you don't have to be able to sing. The rhythms of the beautiful chant carry us all whether praying aloud in song or following along listening. There are some simpler sung responses to the prayers that all are welcome to join in, as well as a spoken reading and prayers.

Join us in an informal and intimate setting in our sanctuary as we pray at the close of the day!

Church of the Holy Spirit
Worship and Ministry Protocols for COVID-19

  • Please, if you do not feel well, stay home, rest, and participate in the service online (see links above).

  • FaceFacemasks are optional and are available in the Narthex if you desire one.

  • Hand sanitizer is being kept available for your use.

  • Holy Communion includes both wine and bread. Wine is received via the common cup; no intinction (dipping) is permitted. If you do not choose to receive the wine, know that you have received communion in full in receiving the bread.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In the Episcopal Church, we believe the things that are common to all Christians. We believe in the Trinity (God the Creator, Jesus Christ the Redeemer and the Holy Spirit who sustains us) and in the truths of the Christian faith found in the Apostles’ Creed. We believe the Holy Scriptures are the inspired Word of God.

Our approach is to use the stories and lessons in the Scriptures as the foundation for our spiritual journey. Church of the Holy Spirit encourages real questions from real people, and commits to help us find the answers that are right for us in a Christian context. As such, we make room for differences in opinion and interpretation, while encouraging all to join around the table to celebrate Holy Communion.

  • Going to church is a celebration. At COHS, we gather to worship God, pray for the world, strengthen our Christian community and reach out to others. There is a place for everyone in our worship—especially you. There are many opportunities for worship, meaningful ministries, fun and fellowship.

  • There is a simple answer—wear whatever is comfortable for you. God is interested in who you are, not what you wear. So come as you are!

  • Children are welcomed at all of our worship services. As a convenience to parents, we offer a nursery space close to the Sanctuary where parents can take infants and toddlers. Our excellent and innovative Sunday School program includes outreach activities, retreats, special events and a pilgrimage for teens. Children and teens are full participants in our worship. Many sing in one of several choirs, play handbells, or play a musical instrument in our ensemble, Fuma Sacra (“Holy Smoke”). Young people also serve as greeters, ushers, acolytes, and lectors. We have a vibrant youth group that meets at least once each month.
