Engaging New Corridors Of Recreation and Education

Morris Arboretum trip!

ENCORE operates in conjunction with the Pastoral Care Ministries. This ministry at COHS is designed to provide adults with opportunities for community through recreation, education and spiritual exploration.” The group meets at various venues in neighboring communities. The group is currently being coordinated by Louise Beebe and Maryanne Swartz.

All adults at Holy Spirit are invited to join ENCORE friends at several outings planned in the next few months. ENCORE stands for Engaging New Corridors Of Recreation and Education, so we try to plan a variety of events, including entertainment, art, music, social gatherings and visits to historical places in the area. We are always open to suggestions.

All adults (parishioners, friends, family, guests) are invited to join us for our upcoming ENCORE activities. New folks are always welcome and carpooling can be arranged.

Please let either Maryanne Swartz  or Louise Beebe , know if you can join us for an event(s) and/or lunch

- Trolley car tour of Valley Forge National Park,
preceded by lunch at 11:00 AM at Panera Bread, King of Prussia

If you haven’t visited Valley Forge National Historic Park recently, you should join us for a trolley tour of this nearby park, where we can enjoy the rolling meadows and tour the his- toric monuments of the site of the Continental Army’s 1777-1778 winter encampment dur- ing the Revolutionary War. The cost of the trolley is $20 for adults, $18 for those age 62 years and over, and $10 for children ages 11 and under. Reservations are recommended and can only be made by calling 610-624-5010. Tickets must be picked up at the Encamp- campment Store at the Visitor Center 30 minutes prior to scheduled tours. Please let Louise or Maryanne know by May 24 if you would like to make reservations for the 1 p.m. trolley.

The Encampment Center recommends: “Leave the driving to us and experience the story of the crucial turning point in our country’s fight for independence with a trolley tour.” The 90-minute trolley tours depart from the Visitor Center and are led by National Park Service trained tour guides. The tours are ADA accessible and include two steps up into the trolley and use of a wheelchair lift on the back of the trolley. Only service animals are allowed on board the trolley. The tours include two stops, first at the newly expanded Muhlenberg Brigade hut site, where you would need to walk across a path to the huts, and the second stop, which entails more extensive walking to visit the original house that was General Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge, which does not have a handicapped accessible entrance. Those who do not wish to walk to either of the sites can remain on the trolley until the others return. For more information, visit encampmentstore.org/trolley-tours.

Before taking the trolley tour, we can have brunch at 11 a.m. at the Panera Bread Restaurant at 150 Allendale Road, King of Prussia. - Musical, “The Color Purple,” at DeSales University’s Professional Theater in Center Valley,
preceded by lunch at Noon at Diana’s Café

Tickets are now available and we recommend getting them early for the musical, “The Color Purple,” which we will attend at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. The musical is being held at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival on the Main Stage of the Professional Theater at the Labuda Center at DeSales University, 2755 Station Ave., Center Valley. Visit pashakespeare.org for tickets, which range in price from $25.00 to $70.00 (adults) or $67.00 (seniors 65 years+), with a $7.00 online convenience fee per purchase.

The musical, which was produced on Broadway, is described on the pashakespeare.org website as follows: “The epic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker comes to life in an emotional tour de force musical infused with a soul-stirring score of jazz, gospel, ragtime, and blues. Set against the backdrop of the American South in the early 20th century, the story follows the transformative journey of Celie, a young African American woman who courageously navigates a life marked by abuse, separation, and discrimination to discover the strength to break free from oppression and find her own voice. From the hauntingly beautiful “I’m Here” to the exuberant celebration of “The Color Purple,” this sensational Tony Award-winning musical is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of love.”

The Labuda Center is handicapped accessible and the parking lot is directly across from the theater.
